Zach Ertz traded to the Cardinals: Who’s fantasy stock just got a boost?

Zach Ertz

Jalen Hurts and Kyler Murray throw the ball roughly the same amount per game (34 passes for Hurts, 35 for Murray), but Murray averages more than 55 extra yards per game thanks to the league’s highest completion rate (75.3 percent). Murray made Maxx Williams a viable fantasy player, although only briefly. He coaxed him to record highs in yards per play, catch rate and yards per target. Imagine what Murray can do with an ex-All-Pro like Ertz.

The question is now whether there will be more TE targets in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.

Kingsbury uses a vertical attack that involves a dagger route running closer to the line. This allows him to eat on the space created in the scrimmage by Rondale Moore and DeAndre Hopkins. This has not been an issue in his two first years on the team. Only 80 catches were made between 2019, and 2020.. Zach Ertz was not the one with those tight ends.

Dallas Goedert

Goedert has had a breakthrough season, but it was halted by Ertz’s inclusion in the lineup. Ertz is now the Eagles’ undisputed TE1, and he will be receiving the majority of his veteran mentor’s 5.2 targets each game. Jalen Hurts has thrown 25.5 percent of his passes to tight ends this season. Goedert will continue to be a reliable middle ground between deep balls to DevontaSmith and Quez Watkins, and checkdowns for Miles Sanders behind line of scrimmage.

Miles Sanders

Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell are still underutilized on the ground but they have the potential to play an important role in the passing game. Ertz used to have short-range targets, but now only Goedert is on the roster. Jack Stoll is undrafted rookie.

Quez Watkins

Philadelphia ran 22 percent of their plays from two-tight end 12 personnel sets — a roughly league average amount. This will allow Watkins to increase his 63 percent snap-share, and free up more three wideout formations.

DeAndre Hopkins and A.J.

DeAndre Hopkins and A.J.

Hopkins will see his workload reduced again this year by a veteran and former Pro Bowler. Green was first, but he isn’t back to his glory days but is still a pretty good .. It’s Ertz.

This is good news for Arizona, since the offensive strategy of “just throw it up to Nuk” had become stale towards the end of the 2020season. This is bad news for those who are invested in the Cardinals’ receiving corp, as they now have an above-average pass-catching tight end for their first time since the Murray-Kingsbury era. However, Ertz’s overall impact on their target share may not be that significant.

Chase Edmonds, James Conner

Conner andEdmonds lost a valuable blocking tighten when Williams was injured. Ertz is still a solid sealer, but he’s not the same force he was in his earlier years. He had given up his position as Eagles’ top blocking tighten to Goedert for the past two seasons.

This will make it harder for the tailback platoons to find space. This could reduce their target share if Murray gets into trouble or needs a safety valve dump off.

Demetrius Harris

These two have only one target in 2021. Although Daniels is a solid blocking T2 and Harris is an athletic field stretcher let’s not lie. These guys weren’t on your fantasy radar.
