Tyler Buchner accomplishes a Notre Dame first

Notre Dame is a long-standing football player and has seen many quarterbacks sport the iconic gold helmets. Tyler Buchner, a true freshman at Virginia Tech, was able to surpass all of those greats.

Buchner was Notre Dame’s first true freshman quarterback to both throw and run for touchdowns in the same game.

It’s one of those facts I wouldn’t believe if someone other than the Notre Dame Football PR Team had put it out there.

All of Notre Dame’s young quarterbacks have seen action as true freshman, and none of them ran for or threw for touchdowns in the same game.

Not Ron Powlus or Matt LoVecchio. Tommy Rees.

It is not so much an indicator as greatness to come, but it is almost unbelievable that it hasn’t happened yet Saturday night. Buchner has a lot to do, but congratulations on this achievement that took Notre Dame so long to achieve.
