Gian Villante to retire following UFC 268 bout vs. Chris Barnett

Gian Villente has ended his MMA career but not without one last dance.

The MMA veteran intends to retire after his scheduled heavyweight fight against Chris Barnett at Saturday’s UFC 268 in New York City.

The 36-year-old revealed the news to Newsday in the lead-up to the fight.

Villante (17-13 MMA, 7-10 UFC) looks to snap a three-fight losing skid against Barnett. He lost to Jake Collier in December 2020,.

Villante competes professionally since 2009. He’s been fighting under UFC banners since 2013.. After going 3-2 in Strikeforce, Villante entered the UFC. Notable wins for the New Yorker include Ed Herman, Corey Anderson and Sean O’Connell.

Villante is currently finishing his physical education degree. He is a substitute teacher at an elementary school in New York where he coaches the 8th grade football team. He will soon become a wrestling coach.
