Nearly exactly one year has passed since Jeremy Stephens shoved him at a March 2021 Faceoff. Drakkar Kolose will be back in the UFC cage.
Klose (11-2-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and promotional newcomer Nikolas Motta have agreed to fight April 16 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. The fight will take place at lightweight and will last three rounds. Although contracts have not been signed yet, verbal agreements have been made.
Two persons with knowledge about the matchup confirmed Wednesday’s targeted booking to MMA Junkie, but requested anonymity as the promotion has yet not made an official announcement. MMA Fighting reported the matchup.
Klose has not competed since a powerful shove from Stephens ahead of their scheduled UFC on ESPN 22 bout. Klose cited neck and concussion issues that lasted for several months after the fight. Stephens did not apologize for pushing and said to MMA Junkie in June that he considered the shove a victory ..
After a 2020 contract-earning win,
Motta makes his long-awaited promotion debut. He was booked for a UFC Fight Night 192 bout against Jim Miller, but Miller pulled out due to COVID-19 and was replaced by newcomer Cameron VanCamp. VanCamp pulled out days before the fight. VanCamp pulled out of the fight because he couldn’t find a replacement opponent.
No other fights have been announced yet for the April 16 UFC event.
