Chael Sonne thinks that Frankie Edgar still has the ability to compete with the best, even though he lost.
Edgar (24-10-1 MMA, 18-10-1 UFC), 40, suffered his second straight knockout loss when he was on the receiving end of a front kick courtesy of Marlon Vera at UFC 268. Edgar was tough to swallow. He was very competitive throughout the fight, even up to 2-0 at the end of Round 3.
Sonnen however believes that the fight was in Edgar’s favor, until he was caught with less than a minute remaining in the fight.
“Frankie was victorious in every round,” Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel. Frankie won every exchange and every round of that fight. He lost one second of the fight – one second. Boom: kick in the mouth, falls to the ground, fight is stopped. This is a tough way to get out. Frankie proved that he can still do it.
” He proved to us that he still trains, that he has the speed, the power and the range. His boxing was excellent. Frankie looked great. He lost one second. We don’t know when we will see a future Hall of Famer or a former champion of this world because he lost one-second of a 13 fight. That’s tough
Edgar claimed that he’s not planning on his next fight . for the first time in his professional career. He didn’t provide a definitive answer on possible retirement but Sonnen believes that it’s one “The Answer” will have.
” Very difficult conversation: Are you there yet with Frankie?” Sonnen stated. “I don’t think so. It is difficult for me to answer the second question. If this isn’t for Frankie, then I must be able submit for you then. Frankie, my favorite fighter has never done a great job in guiding his career. He doesn’t get the game, he doesn’t play the media.
“He’s a straight-up competitor and blue collar worker. You can shake hands before and after the match, then walk away and accept the results. He is a wrestler. He should break from this ideology. Nobody can answer the question: What is Frankie’s next? Frankie .”
Should Frankie go out and try another time, better than Frankie
