Bears safety Eddie Jackson is eager to try out a new role at the secondary. During last Sunday’s win over the Seahawks, Jackson was often positioned at nickelback.

But that wasn’t his first time playing in the slot. He made some great passing plays last year when he lined up at nickelback. In Week 5, he matched up with tight end Darren Waller in his slot. He also took over when several Bears cornerbacks were injured against the Packers.

“That was when it first came up. Then we kind of shied away and I was like, “What’s the matter?” Jackson stated, “I like nickel.” You get more out of the game, you see what I mean. It’s almost like you are more involved in the game. You have more chances to win plays and get more targets.

” It’s nothing extraordinary, just going out and winning your leverage, playing off instincts, reacting, and all that stuff. It’s actually quite fun. It’s a lot of fun. And also we get to put another safety back there; get Deon [Bush] in the game, probably Marqui [Christian], Teez [Tabor], you get other guys in the game, too, and so everyone has fun.”

It’s not something Jackson is able to do but something he’s excited to do next season.

” I enjoy it,” he stated. “I accept the role of playing it and being able to change up, so I would hope .”
